Blog Optimization, COVID-19, and Guns
I have spent the last few hours optimizing my blog SEO-wise. It is a pain, and I wish I had done it initially when I first began the blog. There are a few more blog posts, and I think I will do them another day. It isn’t perfect, but much better than they were. It’s also weird to go back and read posts I had written a year ago – my writing style has changed somewhat since then.
The Roommaister’s family came over today, which was a blast. We had “White People Taco Night,” or ground beef-Americanized tacos. I offloaded two books to her sister, who was checking them out. One was a copy of 1984 by George Orwell and The Stand by Stephen King – both of which are duplicates, and I have more excellent copies that I will not part with. They were grateful for them, and I was grateful to get rid of some duplicates.
By my last count, I have 455 books in my library. Though, in all reality, the number is probably closer to 500. I need to go through and re-catalog them as I believe I have missed a few over the years. This is a project for another time as it is very time-consuming.
I think the rest of my day will be lounging around. My personal web domain, which I use for Freelancing work and professional reference, was officially transferred to Dreamhost (my primary provider now) from GoDaddy – this was an absolute nightmare, and I am beyond glad that GoDaddy is no longer getting my money.
President Biden, COVID-19, and Guns
President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 again, which is concerning. Regardless of your opinion of him, his age and having COVID-19 for the second time within a month should raise alarms. Hopefully, all is well, and we won’t go through another historical event.
According to the previously linked article, he is not experiencing any symptoms. I wonder if it is a false positive. Still, it is a wise decision that he will isolate himself to protect those around him. Unfortunately, not everyone has that much self-awareness and intelligence.
The House also passed a bill to ban “assault-style weapons,” which I also find interesting. I believe it is a good gesture, but it will not go anywhere. Not in this political climate. My opinions on guns, as a whole, are odd, according to some of my friends. I believe wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment, but I am all for common-sense gun reform. I do not believe in the “total ban” of firearms as some Democrats have proposed over the years, nor am I for making it immensely more difficult for law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms.
I do, however, believe in expanded and universal background checks, legislation on gun shows and private dealers, and to an extent – psychological background checks. Though the last point is in very touchy waters, and I understand the concern around them.
At the end of the day, if someone wants a firearm, they will get a firearm. On the other side of the same coin, if you are a law-abiding citizen and gun reform is passed – you have nothing to worry about. If you are upset about it, you are part of the problem.
Stay safe,
Nic.
